A look behind the game

Updated: Dec 31, 2018

The POLICE Board Game - TOP COP. Our first game is almost out the door.

Our first game is nearing completion - hooray! A while back, I had the pleasure of working with a number of law enforcement personnel and officers. I have a lot of respect for the job they all do. The gamer side of me went looking for "fun Police games" on the internet one day and came back with a big ole goose egg. What I found was that the police characters where usually put in as the antagonist to the player's character or were used to hinder player advancement. That's when it hit me that I should make a game about being a Patrol Officer!

“...so it's nothing like the movies and shows. If you want a job where you have 10% action and 90% having to file endless amounts of detailed, reports, then this is the job for you.” -Officer G. Q.

So the next step was finding out the basics of being an Officer and getting the terms close to actual. I wanted the game's elements to be close enough for someone in the profession to feel 'at home', while keeping the game simple enough to pickup and play in 15 minutes.

My process involves three main steps primarily; researching the subject matter, game design and layout of all the components, and lastly play-testing. (I should really sit down and detail a bit more of this.)

Paperwork, writing volumes...
Sooooo much paperwork....!!
